When we talk about Europe’s innovation ecosystem, it’s easy to get lost in acronyms, programs, and calls for proposals. But if you’re a founder, you don’t need to memorize names—you need to figure out which opportunities can move your startup forward in the next three months. The good news: there are three very clear doors to knock on—European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH), the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program (EYE), and the EIT Digital network. We covered all of this in the EU Ecosystem Day session, the closing event of the Venture Incubation Program—a day designed precisely to connect startups with European programs and stakeholders who can open the path to new growth stages.
EDIH: your first stop for transformation and funding
European Digital Innovation Hubs aren’t just consulting centers. Think of them as a “one-stop shop” where your company can assess its digital maturity, access infrastructure to test technologies, and find concrete financial support. Instead of facing the uncertainty of where to go on your own, a hub gives you a clear X-ray of your starting point and a map of available opportunities, both locally and across Europe.
On top of that, the “test before invest” model lets you validate ideas or prototypes without burning through your own resources. You also get the chance to upskill in key areas like artificial intelligence or business-applied robotics. For many founders, the first truly strategic move is to locate the nearest hub and request an initial diagnosis. What looks like a simple formality can become the key to accessing funding programs, pilots with corporates, or even other European hubs eager to collaborate. At Inneürope, we’re members of INNDIH, the EDIH for the Valencian Community. Ask us how you can benefit from INNDIH.
EYE: learn and grow in another country (and get paid for it)
If you have less than three years of entrepreneurial experience, Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is hard to ignore. The name may sound academic, but it’s actually a one- to six-month stay in another country, working side by side with an experienced entrepreneur.
The benefits are twofold:
- You learn how a real business works from the inside, while connecting with networks and markets you wouldn’t normally access. All with a monthly grant that ranges from €650 to €1,200, depending on the destination.
- Best of all, there’s no age or sector limit. The only requirement is to be in the early years of your entrepreneurial journey.
The founders who get the most out of it don’t see it as a “study trip,” but as a business lever: they choose strategic hosts, design work plans focused on sales, expansion, or model validation, and come back with more than lessons—they return with contacts, agreements, and sometimes even their first international customer. At Inneürope, we’re a local contact point for the program. Ask us how to tap into EYE.
EIT Digital: from MVP to traction and a funding round
The third route is EIT Digital, which stands out for supporting startups that have more than just an idea: you’ve got an MVP, some early metrics, and the need to take the next leap. The logic is simple: identify your current stage and match you with the program that best fits your situation.
- If your priority is fundraising, EIT Digital’s Growth Services act like a strategic partner—helping you craft your round’s narrative and, above all, opening doors to investors they already know.
- If you need to level up the founding team, the Speed Master offers intensive training in strategy, metrics, and sales.
- If your goal is to validate the market with corporates, the Open Innovation Factory provides financial support and connects you with companies ready to pilot your solution. The aim is crystal clear: help you achieve real traction in under eight months.
Three doors, one goal: move forward
Each of these programs fits a different moment in the founder’s journey. EDIH helps you understand where you are and which immediate supports to activate. EYE offers hands-on learning and international connections at the earliest stage. EIT Digital boosts you when you have an MVP and it’s time to grow, win customers, or prepare a round.
The key is to realize that Europe isn’t just a mosaic of scattered calls—it’s an ecosystem designed so that you can plug in somewhere along the chain. Choose the right door for your current stage and move with focus. Because the best time to activate these opportunities was yesterday. The second best, without a doubt, is today.
