At Inneürope, we continue to strengthen our role as a driver of open innovation and sustainability in Europe and Africa. In this regard, we are participating in KijaniBox a project funded by the European Union through Horizon Europe, which converts organic waste into clean energy for refrigeration systems. This initiative not only helps reduce food loss and health risks but also promotes sustainable economic development in Africa.
KijaniBox: Innovation for Africa’s green transition
KijaniBox aims to harness organic waste to generate renewable energy, improving food refrigeration in Africa. By implementing innovative solutions in three pilot sites, the project consortium collaborates with local stakeholders to optimize waste management, enhance supply chains, and strengthen the refrigeration industry.
As a key partner in the project, Inneürope leads adoption and commercialization strategies, ensuring the project’s scalability and long-term viability. Additionally, it plays a fundamental role in creating an ecosystem of startups and SMEs, supporting local talent through training programs, accelerators, and incubators.
One of the project’s most important milestones is the launch of an Open Call for Innovation, which seeks to identify and reward disruptive solutions in cleantech and food supply chains. Through this initiative, Inneürope fosters open innovation and attracts entrepreneurial talent that contributes to sustainability and digitalization in Africa’s agri-food sector.
Our expertise in open innovation: HUBiquitous and beyond
Our involvement in KijaniBox builds upon our strong experience from previous projects such as HUBiquitous, another EU-funded program that promoted the digitalization of African startups. Through this initiative, Inneürope facilitated access to advanced technological tools such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Big Data, connecting innovation ecosystems between Europe and Africa.
Additionally, Inneürope is part of strategic networks like Talent Route Network and DIHNET EU, which promote startup mobility and the development of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs). Our collaboration with African DIHs strengthens technology transfer and fosters innovative solutions tailored to local challenges.
