The European Union launched the 2025 Life Programme calls for proposals, unlocking €600 million in funding to support projects that boost environmental protection, climate resiliency, biodiversity conservation, and the clean energy transition. This funding initiative, managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), represents a significant opportunity for public and private sector organizations across Europe to contribute to a more sustainable future.
A Comprehensive Funding Framework
The LIFE Programme 2025 encompasses several sub-programs, each targeting specific areas:
- Nature and Biodiversity: €153.4 million allocated to projects that protect, conserve, and restore Europe’s wildlife and natural habitats.
- Circular Economy and Quality of Life: €73 million dedicated to initiatives promoting sustainable resource use and improving environmental quality.
- Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation: €61.5 million aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing climate resilience.
- Clean Energy Transition: €91.4 million to support the shift towards renewable energy sources and increased energy efficiency.
On top of this, LIFE provides further funding for Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) and Strategic Nature Projects (SNAPs) totaling €158 million, which aim to integrate environmental and climate objectives into broader policies and programs via large-scale projects. Finally, LIFE’s Technical Assistance allocates an additional €30 million to aid in the preparation of SIPs and SNAPs, as well as replication and policy priorities.
Who can apply?
The LIFE Programme is open to any legal entity, public or private, established in a Member State of the European Union or one of the countries associated to the programme.
The LIFE Programme places strong emphasis on supporting projects that offer practical, innovative solutions with proven impact and the potential to be scaled or replicated in other contexts. Therefore, applications are open to single organizations or consortia involving multiple European partners; however, individuals are not eligible to apply.
