En un esfuerzo por consolidar la innovación en el sector salud, el proyecto VELES avanza significativamente en su misión de establecer el primer Espacio de Datos Regional de Salud Inteligente (RSHDS) en Europa. Integrado por un consorcio de 15 socios provenientes de Bulgaria, Grecia, Rumanía, Chipre, Suecia, España y Alemania, el proyecto VELES busca convertir el sureste de Europa en un referente en salud digital.
Inneürope, como socio del proyecto y actor clave en el ámbito de la innovación en salud digital, ha tenido una participación destacada en el reciente VELES Third Plenary Meeting, aportando conocimientos y experiencia para impulsar esta ambiciosa iniciativa europea. Este encuentro, celebrado en Bucarest los días 11 y 12 de febrero de 2025, fue un escenario crucial para presentar los avances y planificar los próximos pasos del proyecto.
El Novel R&I Transformational Framework de VELES: un pilar fundamental para el RSHDS
Uno de los hitos más relevantes presentados en Bucarest por Inneürope fue el Novel R&I Transformational Framework. Esta herramienta, cuyo desarrollo y validación ha sido co-liderada por Inneürope, representa un pilar fundamental para la creación del RSHDS en Rumanía, Bulgaria, Grecia y Chipre.
Entregado a la Comisión Europea a finales de enero, este marco estratégico facilitará la transición de estos países hacia ecosistemas de salud impulsados por datos. Su objetivo es promover la interoperabilidad de los espacios de datos de salud, fortalecer la ciberseguridad en el manejo de información sensible y fomentar una cultura digital robusta dentro del sector sanitario. Además, identifica áreas estratégicas que requieren mejoras para optimizar el ecosistema de salud digital en esta región.
Avances clave en el VELES Third Plenary Meeting: Ética, interoperabilidad y pilotos
Las sesiones de trabajo en Bucarest abordaron aspectos críticos para el desarrollo del proyecto, donde se realizó un análisis exhaustivo de las necesidades de los distintos actores involucrados y se definieron las prioridades para la integración de sistemas, profundizando en la elaboración de metodologías que garantizan la interoperabilidad y el cumplimiento de normativas éticas.
Los pilotos, elementos centrales del proyecto, también fueron objeto de discusión. Estos estudios, que se llevarán a cabo en Rumanía, Bulgaria, Grecia y Chipre, se centran en áreas de alta prioridad sanitaria como tumores cerebrales, Alzheimer, cáncer y demencia. Adicionalmente, un taller colaborativo reunió a todos los socios del consorcio, permitiendo identificar de forma conjunta los principales desafíos y oportunidades que se vislumbran en el horizonte del espacio de datos de salud en la región.
Inneürope liderará la exploración de Innovación para impulsar el ecosistema de salud digital en Europa
Tras la fructífera reunión en Bucarest, Inneürope ya se encuentra inmersa en el diseño de una nueva iniciativa clave en el proyecto que estará centrada en identificar startups y tecnologías emergentes con potencial de generar un impacto significativo en la salud digital del sureste de Europa.
El proceso de exploración de Inneürope se enfocará en la detección temprana de soluciones innovadoras con un alto potencial transformador y su posterior validación mediante pruebas de concepto, realizadas en estrecha colaboración con socios estratégicos. Esta iniciativa busca ser un catalizador para fortalecer el ecosistema de salud digital europeo, permitiendo anticipar tendencias del mercado, mitigar riesgos asociados a la adopción de nuevas tecnologías y detectar nuevas oportunidades de negocio en este dinámico sector.

Inneürope and its contribution to the digital transformation of healthcare in Europe: Key outcomes of the Third VELES plenary meeting
In an effort to consolidate innovation in the health sector, the VELES project is making significant progress in its mission to establish the first Regional Smart Health Data Space (RSHDS) in Europe. Composed of a consortium of 15 partners from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Cyprus, Sweden, Spain, and Germany, the VELES project seeks to make southeastern Europe a leader in digital health.
Inneürope, as a project partner and key player in the field of digital health innovation, has played a prominent role in the recent VELES Third Plenary Meeting, contributing knowledge and experience to drive this ambitious European initiative. This meeting, held in Bucharest on February 11th and 12th, 2025, was a crucial setting for presenting progress and planning the project’s next steps.
The VELES Novel R&I Transformational Framework: a fundamental pillar for the RSHDS
One of the most relevant milestones presented in Bucharest by Inneürope was the Novel R&I Transformational Framework. This tool, whose development and validation has been co-led by Inneürope, represents a fundamental pillar for the creation of the RSHDS in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, and Cyprus.
Delivered to the European Commission at the end of January, this strategic framework will facilitate the transition of these countries towards data-driven health ecosystems. Its objective is to promote the interoperability of health data spaces, strengthen cybersecurity in the handling of sensitive information, and foster a robust digital culture within the healthcare sector. In addition, it identifies strategic areas that require improvement to optimize the digital health ecosystem in this region.
Key advances in the VELES Third Plenary Meeting: Ethics, interoperability and pilots
The working sessions in Bucharest addressed critical aspects for the development of the project, where a thorough analysis of the needs of the various stakeholders involved was carried out and priorities were defined for the integration of systems, delving into the development of methodologies that guarantee interoperability and compliance with ethical regulations.
The pilots, central elements of the project, were also discussed. These studies, which will be carried out in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, and Cyprus, focus on high-priority health areas such as brain tumors, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and dementia. Additionally, a collaborative workshop brought together all the consortium partners, allowing them to jointly identify the main challenges and opportunities that lie on the horizon of the health data space in the region.
Inneürope will lead the exploration of Innovation to drive the digital health ecosystem in Europe
After the fruitful meeting in Bucharest, Inneürope is already immersed in the design of a new key initiative in the project that will be focused on identifying startups and emerging technologies with the potential to generate a significant impact on digital health in southeastern Europe.
Inneürope’s exploration process will focus on the early detection of innovative solutions with a high transformative potential and their subsequent validation through proof-of-concept tests, carried out in close collaboration with strategic partners. This initiative seeks to be a catalyst to strengthen the European digital health ecosystem, allowing it to anticipate market trends, mitigate risks associated with the adoption of new technologies, and identify new business opportunities in this dynamic sector.
